CO-OPERATIVE SOCIETY

FORMED AT MILTON. On Monday, 17th inst., a large attendance of Milton workers met in tiie Bruce County Chambers to consider lurther the question of forming a Milton Industrial Co-operative Society. Mr Isaac Robinson, as chairman, apologised for the absence of their local Mayor (Mr Rennie), who was away from home.. He then briefly stated the object of tne meeting, after which Messrs Cleary, Peters, and Thomson (Dunedin), arid .Fenton (Kaitangata) addressed the meeting. Mr Cleary toid them they would have difficulties to contend with, but, like the Dunedin Society, of which he was a director, they would learn that any difficulties placed in their way could, by their unitedly sticking t-ogethc-r, easily bo overcome. The Dunedin Society had started with nothing, and was to-day doing big things. Mr Cleary stated that he knew of a case of a lady recently from Sydney who had been a member of an industrial co-opera-tive there, and whose share of the profits in a comparatively few years had accumulated to over £l5O. The speakers were thanked and heartily applauded. On the motion of the chairman, seconded by Mr Miller, it was unanimously decided to form a Milton Industrial Co-operative Society, the provisional committee of management to be Mesdames Boyle and M‘Pherson, and Messrs Boyle, Ferguson, Milne, Nicol, Robinson, with power to add to their number. After the meeting the committee met and elected Mr Boyle as president and Mr Isaac Robinson as secretary.
