CARNIVAL WEEK IN DUNEDIN.

Preparations are now well m hand for Carnival W eek in Dunedin, which begins on Saturday, February 5. Last year was the first Carnival Week which Dunedin had held, and it certainly was a very big success. and proved conclusively that it was a good move on the part of the A. and P. Society, the Jockey Club, and the Trotting Club to hold their bi<>- events simultaneously. The success of last year has encouraged the different clubs and, societies to enlarge their programmes, and this year will see a full week of amusements. 'Besides the A. and P. Society’s Show and the big jumping events, there will be the Dunedin Cup meeting at Wingatui and the trotting meeting at Forbury. A champion pigeon shoot has also been arranged, and there will be also a big regatta in the Upper Harbour, as well as many other minor events. Naturally, Carnival Week finds a big influx of people coining to Dunedin, and accommodation in the ordinary way would be severely _ taxed, but the Citizens’ Housing Committee, which was formed last year, under the chairmanship of Councillor Douglas, has again been busy, and has arranged accommodation, exclusive of hotels, for fully 1500 people. Any intending visitors to Dunedin for Carnival Week can obtain information, free of charge, with regard to accommodation by getting into communication with the secretary of the Citizens’ Housing Committee, Empire Buildings, Dunedin.
