(From Oob Own Correspondent.) January 6. On the second day of the Manawatu meeting the three-year old filly La Paloma (Hallowmas —Helen Portland) won her first race. She repeated the performance on tho second day of the Wairarapa meeting. When she won at Awapuni she finished in front of All Cerise, by All Black —Martian Princess, who went on to Marton and won. Multive and Crosswords, winners of hurdlo races at Manawatu. went on to Hastings and scored In the jumpers flat races there. The connections of Multive were questioned at Awapuni, and it is reported they had a close call. Mr Murchison acted as stipendiary there. Strategv ((Martian —Strathspey) won on the second clay, and his stable-mate. Prince Martian (Martian—Vicella). on the last day. Mr M'Donald also won a double it the Wairarapa with Kildoe (Kilhronev—Grey Linnet). H. Gray came down from Auckland to ride Marqueieur on the second day at Palmerston, hut he was beaten by Bonnie Maid, who gave one of her good performances. Marqueteur picked up a stake at Marton at New V ear time. Three of the progeny of By By—Marqueteur. Celmisia. and Honey Pee. — were successful at the holiday meetings. When Explorer won on the concluding day at Manawatu he scored his first win in til® ownership of Mr J. L. Xioholls. who made a bad purchase in the imported mare Catalini. Tommy Rot and Backsheesh were on the move when the harrier went un for the Juvenile Handicap, and at the finish they wove separated bv Dunedin. Rifc-ksTicegh won on his onlv appearance at Wairarapa. Vnofher of the Bozonian breed in Rouen won the Liverpool Handicap from Punka, who in her next _ appearance won Die Marton Cup. This is the first vein since Mr Gaisforct purchased her at auction at Christ.

Blackmail, the Palmerston North Stakes winner, was beaten on the second day at Marton by Adyrma, who was re ■ ceivimr a voar and a stone in weignt. Warplane, runner up in the Palmerston North Stakes, won on the next day iie was a good two-year-old, _ but broke down on his only appeahanee in the W anganui Guineas as a three-year-old. Bo Peep successfully got to the end oi a mile and a distance on the second day at Marton.
