MANCHESTER UNITY.
Loyal Tapanui Lodge celebrated its fifty-first anniversary by holding a most successful ball, some 80 couples participating. The loyal toast of " King and Unity" was honoured, after which Per. Sec. Bro. P. Hay, on behalf of the lodge, presented P.G. Bro. Duncan M'Ooll with a gold medal to mark his jubilee of Oddfellowship. Bro. Hay congratulated Bro. M'Coll on having attained his fiftieth anniversaiy as a member of the order. He mentioned that the recipient of their favours had joined the lodge on March 8, 1870, had beeD a trustee for 37 years, was a consistent attender, and ever kept the best interests of the in view. Bro. M'Coll, in thanking the lodge for its present, said he had, onlj- done his duty. He urged young members to take an active interest in their lodge, and those who were not already members to join the Oddfellows or some other well-established friendly society.
