AMERICAN MARKETS.
(By Cable.)'
SIR T. MACKENZIE'S VIEWS. NEW YORK, October 11. The Australian Press Association interviewed Sir Thomas Mackenzie, who, since ithe Conference of Chambers of Commerce at Toronto, has visited. Boston and Washington and addressed the Chambers of Commerce in those cities. He said: "The market is generally uncertain., I will put before the people upon my return to New Zealand whether it would be better to develop the United States markets for their primary products, despite the possibly high tariff, after the Presidential election, or continue their development of the British market. I have been inquiring into the . possibilities of trade between New Zealand and the United States and Canada. I visited the docks here, and saw New Zealand meat discharged in excellent condition. Our lamb is much appreciated here; but mutton is in poor demand. The British wholesale prices for lamb are now much higher than in the United States." " Sir T. Mackenzie said he found the feeling in the United States towards Britain far more cordial than he anticipated. He strongly supported Lord Desborough's and Mr Robson's proposal for the establishment of an International Chamber of Commerce for the exchange and distribution of statistics and information concerning products and commerce. Such a chamber would fill a long-standing need." Sir T. Mackenzie will leave for New Zealand on Wednesday.
