MEAT DETERSORATJON. CHRISTCHURCH, October 13. The "White Star liner Runic commenced this morning to load the local portion of her cargo of mutton, consisting of 30,000 carcases. * Some few hundred carcases had been loaded when the refrigerating engineer of the vessel refused to take delivery of the mutton, and the carcases were unshipped again. A total of 16 large car loads were refused, the ground of the refusal being that the meat had greatly deteriorated and showed signs of mouldiness.
A freak of Nature was discovered by Mr John Deegan on his Drummond farm on Friday, Bth instant. It -was a twin lamb with two complete heads, joined at the crown, three ears and four eyes. It was dead when found, but was fully developed. The other lamb is quite frisky.
