CRAVES OF THE FALLEN.
HEADSTONE APPROVED. (Feom Oub Own Cobrespondent.) / WELLINGTON, August 16. Cabinet agreed to-day to the design of the headstone that is to he placed on the grave 9 of all New Zealand soldiers who fell in the war. This matter has been discussed at great length, and remained unsettled until Sir .Tames Allen reached Great Britain and had time to inspect some 6f the stones wbioh have been erected Already. He cabled- a few days ago recommending the Government to agree to a particular design, and. this has now been done. The headstone is to be a plain cross 2ft 6in high and Ift 3ln wide. A circle at the centre of the cross contains the words "New Zealand," surmounted by a fern leaf. _ The material Is to be Portland stone, which is reported by experts to be i|ufnoiently durable. The narno, rank, and regiment of tho soldier > will be inscribed ptt the cross, and provision may be made for anjnsoription provided by the Relatives. Tho crosses will be provided sba placed in position by tho Government.
