(By Cable.)
WOMEN'S SUFFRAGE. NEW YORK, August 18. The New York Times Nashville correspondent states that Tennessee has ratified the Suffrage Amendment Act, thus enfranchising 25,000,000 women in the United States. ' . , A ugust 10. Tennessee is the thirty-sixth State to ratify women suffrage by a vote of 50 to 46, making the amendment the basic law of the united States. The New York Evening Sun's Washington correspondent says the' enfranchisement of 27,000,000 women of voting age is expected to bring the element of doubt into the Presidential elections. There is still a slight chanco that Tennessee's vote may bo reconsidered, but this is not expected to occur. It is said that the political leaders are completely at sea regarding the action women will take over the Liquor question, and the League of Nations. It is pointed out that it will be difficult to organise the women, and although more than 19,000,000 women had a right to vote in many States previously, many of these did not take an important part in politics. The Republicans and the Democrats are taking steps to canvass the situation and special appeal to the new voters.
