THE WEATHER
(Feom Our Own Cokeespondents.) OTUREHUA,, August 16. A heavy fall of snow on Wednesday and Thursday last was followed by sever© frosts throughout the Lauder and Ida Valley districts, and all farm work except the feeding of etook was brought to a standstill.
The last fall of snow was in some places 10 inches to 12 inches deep, but it disappeared as though by magic through a warm wind springing up in the night. This fall, which averages about 4 inches to 6 inches, is frozen firm on to the ground. One of the oldest inhabitants, who had been after the lapse of several years, witnessing the curling, assured us that this year the severity of the frost had created a record.
