TAIERI AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY.
The fifty-ninth annual meeting of the Taieri Agricultural Society was held at Outram on the 19th, the retiring president (Mr Geo. Gordon) in the chair. The annual report traversed the work of the past year, and referred to the success of the show at Wingatui in November. The year opened with a credit balance of £59 lis sd, and closed with a credit balance of £77 10s 6d. The death of Dr Allan was much lamented. He was a life member, and had always taken a lively interest in the society's affairs. The committee expressed thanks to all exhibitors, subscribers, and donors of special prizes, to those ladies and gentlemen who had acted as judges, to the Dunedin Jockey Club for the free use of the ground, to the auditor, and to the press. Mr Wm. Nichol was elected president and Mr George Gordon vice-president. The latter was asked to accept the office as a compliment to the work he had done last year. The following were elected to the committee: —Messrs G. Johnson, J. M'Leod, F. Docherty, A. F. Cheyne, Win. Blackie, O. Findlay, W. Kirkland, J. Sutherland, J. Williamson, Jas. Miller, A. Moynihan, A. Bathgate, J. Young, and P. L. Brown. A clause had been inserted in the annual report providing for the repeal of rule No. 23, and substituting "That the annual show be' held on the Wingatui Racecourse on a date to be fixed." On the matter being discussed, this was abandoned, and it was decided that next, show —the diamond jubilee g h ow —be held on Outram Recreation Ground about the end of November. The West Taierl members have taken the matter up energetically, and entertain every hope of making the show worthy of the occasion.
