RACING IN ENGLAND.

THE ASCOT MEETING. LONDON, June 15. The Ascot meeting opened in delightful sunshine, but later rain fell. The King and Queen and Princess Mary, who were the Eoyal guests, motored through Windsor Park, and then changed to carriages (drawn by eight horses) lor the procession on the course, with scarlet-coated outriders. The postilions wore blue-and-gold livery, with powdered wigs. The display of frocks was unprecedented in the history of the gathering. There was not an empty place on the grand stands or in the enclosure. June 16. The Hunt Cup resulted as . follows: —Square Measure 1, Glanmerin 2, Starshot 3. At the Ascot Eoyal meeting Donoghue rode Square Measure in the Eoyal Hunt Cup and won by three lengths. Ugly Duckling was unplaced. The Fernhill Stakes, of five furlongs, resulted as follows: —Tetratoma (Carslake) 1, Galway Gate 2, Wild Honey 3. Won by six lcngths.BOYAL ASCOT. LONDON; June 17. Following is the result of the Gold Cup, value SOOsovs, with 2000sovs added; second 300sovs, and third lOOsovs. Three-year-olds, 7.7.; four, 9.5; six and aged, 9.4. Two miles and a-half.— Tangiers by Cylgad—Orange Girl 3yrs, 1; Juvergneur,2 ; Keysoe, 3. Buchan passed the post first, but a protest for crossing was sustained, and the race was awarded to Tangiers. (Graganour came in first in the Epsom Derby of 1013, but was disqualified, and the stake went to Aboyeur.)

The race for the Ascot Gold Cup was most exciting. From the entrance to the straight Buchan (ridden by Frank Bullock, the Australian jockey) and Tangiers (Hulte) fought a strenuous battle. Buchan swerved, and Tangiers was partly pulled up to come on the outside. Buchan won by a neck. An objection on account of crossing was upheld, causing the greatest sensation since 1907, when Elder, after dead-heating with White Knight, was disqualified for bumping. In the same year the Gold Cup was stolen.-
