FIRE AT CHEVIOT

WELLINGTON, April 10. The secretary of the G.P.O. has received the following telegram from the postmaster at Cheviot (78 miles north of Christchurch) :—"An extensive fire occurred here at 2 o'clock this morning. A block of buildings comprising an empty dwellinghouse, the offices of Messrs Dalgety- and Co., a shop occupied by Mr Weathertdn, and the Town Hall being completely, destroyed." CHRISTOHURCH, April 11. The Town Hall and Weatherton's store at Cheviot were insured in the Sun office for £675. This covered the contents of the Town Hall. Messra Dalgety and Co.'s premises were insured in the Victoria office for £875, and the contents for £1155 in the same office.
