RED CROSS SOCIETY.

LONDON, March 10. The first general meeting of the Council of the League of the Red Cross Society has concluded at Geneva. It was attended by delegates from 27 countries. At the first conference the chairman stated that the object was to develop a. plan calling upon the whole world, through the Red Cross Societies, to co-operate for the immediate relief of the millions of people who are powerless to help themselves. Sir David Henderson (director of the General League) gave an account of the league's activities since its foundation, emphasising that it relieved the needs of Poland and Czecho-Slovakia, supplying large quantities of medicines, food, and clothes, and combating a serious outbreak of typhus. The final meeting of the league decided to take action regarding the repatriation, of war prisoners still in Siberia- and Russia. Contributions in aid of Polish relief included a gift valued at £70,000 from Australia.
