YOUNG WOMAN'S LAPSE.
ACCUSED BEFORE THE COURT. WELLINGTON, March 3.
The young woman, Kathleen Elennore Morton, alias Erin Morton, 22 years of age, who was arrested at Sydney on an extradition warrant, was this morning brought before Mr R-iddell, S.M., at the Magistrate's Court. The charge preferred against the accused, who had for some time acted as bookkeeper for the Y.W.C.A. in Wellington, is that between September 28 and January 23 she committed the thefts of various sums of money, amounting to £343 2s of the funds of the association, and that on December 6 last she stole the sum of £24 from the funds. When Chief Detective Wade asked that the accused be further remanded to the 10th inst., Mr O'Deary, who appeared for accused, made application that Morton be admitted to bail, stating that the magistrate before whom the accused had been taken in Sydney had allowed bail in the sum of £IOO. The magistrate agreed to allow the accused her liberty pending the hearing of the case next week, on her finding bail in tile sum of £IOO and sureties of a like amount.-
