HIDES EXPORT TAX SUGGESTED.
NAPIER, March 5. At a meeting of the Hawke's Bay Tannery Company this morning it was decided to request the Prime Minister to look more closely into the question of an export duty on hides, with a view to protecting local industries and keeping the price of leather down. A tax of 4d to 6d on all hides exported to the United States is suggested.
