RACING IN AUSTRALIA.

I VICTOEIA RACING CLUB. '"'■ I Fiiist Day—Tuesday, March 2. The weather was fine- and. sunny and there ' was a -large attendance for the second day of the Victoria Racing Clu/b's autumn meeting. Alnwick just won the Elms Handicap from Early Leader and Battlewrack. The. I favourite, Tangalooma, was sixth. Alnwick was trained by : Chris. Moore for a lady I owner, Mrs A. Chirnside. Modilli, ridden by I M'Lachlan, finished first in the Ascot Vale Stakes, winning narrowly-.from the penalised Gossine Ha tan. Modilli cost Mr Norman Falkiner £550 as a yearling. There was' a ' great finish in the Australian Cup. Macadam made a fine run, and won in the last ■ .50 ■ yards from an outsider, Tenterfield. The. I pacemaker, Eastcourt, was a good \third." I Menin was beaten after half a mile had been covered, and ran third last. Kilflinn was dangerous . until the straight was entered. Macadam cost his owner, Mr S. P. Second Day—Thursday, March 4. The weather was fine, but overcast and there was a good attendance for the wura day of the Victoria Racing Club's autumn meeting. After being second last early m tme race Coronatus won the Hurdles narrowly from Nickajack, who had won the race lor each of the three previous years. Springing fast from the straight entrance the nuie-year-old Sir Ibex decisively downed the favourite Cetigne in the Lloyd Stakes. Ine time, lmin 38fsec, was a quarter of a secona outside the record for the race. Sir Ibex won the same race last autumn, lhe Aaelaide horse Baratoo was always well up, and just won in the Autumn Handicap from Colbert, who finished in a great run. Another Adelaide representative, Earl Simon, led over the last three furlongs in the March Nursery Handicap, and won the race in record time. Artilleryman had an easy task in the Governor's Plate. His stake winnings are now £L6,521. GOVERNOR'S. PLATE—Artilleryman, 8.2 (R. Lewis), 1; Eastcourt, 9.3, 2; Star Comedian, 9.3, 3. Also started: Wee Gun 9.3, Court Jester 9.0. Victoria Racing Club's autumn meeting, but tl'ere was a large attendance. An outsider in Dinkum Digger led for the last two furlongs in the Hopeful Stakes and won well, but the time was slow, owing to a head wind. David, who was fourth early in the race, got up in the last few yards and just won the Carmichael Stakes. He was well ridden by J, Mahoney, who won the autumn double. Red Domo and Macadam had a great race in the Northcote Handicap, but Cape Sky, vigorously ridden by Lewis: for the last three furlongs, gained a narrow victory from Two Blues, who finished well. Menin, who was last early in the race, finished a good third. Cotswold led all the way in the Steeplechase. Artilleryman led for the last seven furlongs in the King's Plate, and covered the last six furlongs in lmin 16sec. His stakj winnings total £17,284. J. Mahoney rode the double on David and Mneto.
