Napier merchants were advised on the 2nd that 50 per cent, of the Waihemo's cargo of 40,000 cases of benzine* was to be diverted to Auckland. An urgent meeting of the Chamber of Commerce passed a motion strongly protesting against this action of the Board' of Trade, and appealing to the Prime Minister for justice to the district. It was pointed out that Hawke's Bay would bq in a very bad way if the order was carried out. Frank Bailer, at the Auokland Polio© Court pleaded guilty to four charges of breaking and entering. Accused was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence.
