JOHN M'GLASHAN COLLEGE

OPENING CEREMONY. The John College was opened on the 2nd inst. The president of the Board of Governors (the Rev. G. H- Balfour) was unable to be present, and the chair was taken by the Rev. Dr Cameron. In addition to the pupils, a large number of parents, both ladies and gentlemen, were present. Dr Cameron was supported on the platform by the principal (Mr A. G. Butchers), and a mimber of members of the Board of Governors. The proceedings were opened by the singing of the Old Hur.dredth, after which Dr Cameron offered an eloquent prayer of invocation. The Rev. W, Gray Dixon read passages of Scripture bearing upon the college motto, "Lex Domini Lux Mundi—"The Law of the Lord is the Light of the World." The address to the pupils was delivered by the Rev. A. W. Kinmont. The following winners of scholarships were then called to the platform and were congratulated by Mr Kinmont, a few words being addressed to each : WINNERS OF SCHOLARSHIPS.
