A nearly new Hupmobile motor car was stolen by two discharged employees of Wirth's Oircus at Te Kuiti on the Ist. The car had been left with others outside the circus, the magneto being disconnected; but the thieves, who were- evidently experts, connected it up and got clear away. The owner, a Mr Harrison, on the 2nd traced the thieves to Ohura, and the car was recovered at Matiere on the 3rd. One of the thieves was captured at Opotiki. A Wairoa settler, while looking for limestone, found a. large deposit of calcium sulphate or gypsum. , Several samples which ware analysed gave 71.92 sulphate. A plant is to be put in almost immediately to work the deposit, for which there is a considerable demand. Probably a company will be formed. The find is within 15 < ohains of a metalled road, and is accessible to motor traffic.
