WAIROA (Hawke's Bay).

March 3.—Last week end Wairoa was the scene of a very important conference, when representatives from all the local bodies of Northern Hawke's Bay, Wairoa, and Gisborne districts met to formulate demands for the prosecution of the Lake Waikaremoana hydro-electric scheme. Mr J. Corkill (mayor of Wairoa), who presided, said that Wairoa was tired of the delay and was quite ready to go alone; but she would more willingly join in a general scheme provided time was not wasted. The result of the conference was a demand on the Government to proceed immediately with the scheme; and to stress the resolution a. deputation o£ 14, thoroughly representative of the Hawke's Bay and East Coasts districts, was appointed to proceed to Napier and lay the districts' needs before the Prime Minister.
