EPISCOPAL VISITATION.

BISHOP RICHARDS AT PALMERSTON. On Friday, 20th nit., the parishioners of St Mary's Anglican Church, Palmerston, had the pleasure of entertaining Bishop Richards at a social, held in the Town Hail. The chair was occupied by Mr O. W. Foreman, who has been appointed to the charge, and was very ably supported'' by Mr G. H. Gates, the people's churohwarden, Mr Oates, in a business-like speech, gave an outline of what had been done by the vestry, in securing a vicarage, and urged the parishioners to show what they could do by reducing the remainder of the debt -within, the next two years. Mr Foreman epob3 on somewhat similar lines, and asked for the' co-operation of the parishioners in carrying out the necessary duties in connection with the parish. Bishop Richards received a splendid rejception on rising to speak, and pointed out that to be faithful soldiers of the Great Head of the Church each must be alwaya on the watch to fight the great force of evil so prevalent in the world to-day. • The Kev. J. Davie,- of the Presbyterian Church, also welcomed the bishop, and fully endorsed all that had been said by the previous speakers. The social was a great success in every way. Competitions were held through the kindness of Mrs Hawson. songs were sung by Miss. Hurndell and Mr Foreman, and the members of Mr Appleby's family rendered pleasing instrument*! trios. Mrs Catcs, the church organis; ably supplied the accompaniments. Votes of thanks wore passed to Mrs Cates for her voluntary services at the organ, and to Mr Morrison for his services in the past in keeping the church together.
