A PLUCKY MAORI.
WAIHI, February 25. A small boat, of which Joe Gallagher, a Native, was the sole occupant, capsized in the rollers on the bar,, at the entrance to Bowentown Harbour on Sunday last.. Gallagher had been fishing outside the ,bar and was returning with a boatload of fish. After a mile's swim he reached Matakana Island, which is now deserted). Next day, despairing of being rescued, he commenced to swim to the mainland, and was caught en route in a whirlpool, but after a desperate struggle he reached the shore.
