AMPLE USE FOR ALL FUNDS. CHRISTCHURCH, February 27. At the annual meeting of the Dominion Council of the British Red Cross Society and Order of St. John of Jerusalem, the Governor-General presiding, the election of officers resulted as follows: —President, Lord Liverpool; vice-presidents—Messrs J. H. Gunson (Wellington), T. Young (Canterbury), J. A. Flesner (OtagoJ, one to be nominated by Otago and appointed by the JXew Zealand Executive; chairman of executive, Mr T. Young; two representatives on the executive, Mr 3 J. P.. Luke and Mr L. O. H. Tripp. The following resolutions were carried: — That, having considered the circular letter of the Minister of Internal Affairs, of October 23, this council desires to point out. that its war activities cannot cease till the military hospitals in New Zealand have been evacuated, and that thereafter its objects are likely to be extended to other objects in peace time which are to be undertaken at the suggestion of the International Conference of lied Cross Societies in consequence of the provisions of* clause 25 of the League of Nations, so that it will have ample use for all funds which are in l#uid at, the present time. _, g That, having received the report of the London Commttee and a copy of its final resolutions, this council expresses its appreciaton of the splendid services tendered to our soldiers and to the Empire by the members of that committee, ahd_ in accordance with its request hereby dissolves it; and that Mr Waldegrave be requested to continue to act as New Zeland Red Cross Commissioner. It was decided that his Excellency be requested to ask that the offer of the British Red Cross to return £30,000 be accepted, and that it be recommended that, after the claims of sick and wounded soldiers and sailors and military purses have been satisfied, the money be used in establishing a fund for providing trained nurses for the alleviation of sickness and suffering wherever necessary, as the council or executive shall from time to time determine. A letter from the New Zealand Red Cross Commissioner in London with regard to starving children in Europe was received, and it was resolved that the question of a further grant to- the starving children fund be referred to the executive with power to act. Mr T. Young, officer in charge of the central office, Wellington, in moving a yqte of thanks to his Excellency, for presiding, referred to the very great help which his Excellency, as president, had always given, and to the value of hia and of Lady Liverpoors services in connection with all patriotic efforts. . .
