TROUBLE AT FIJI.

INDIANS RESUME WORK. WELLINGTON, February 21. The following telegram, lias been received by the Prime Minister from Major Puttick, officer commanding the armed force sent from New Zealand to Fiji in connection with the strike there: —"The situation has considerably quietened since the 13th, when a small riot occurred, and was quelled by the police and the local forces. A few shots -were fired in support of the police, who were attacked with sticks. Fifteen rioters were wounded. The Indians are resuming work, and all is quiet in all districts at present." MATTERS QUIETENING DOWN. AUCKLAND, February 24. The Star correspondent at Suva writes t February 14. i There seems to be a likelihood of things quietening down. Matters at Lautoka, _Ba Labasa, and other Indian centres are quiet; but it is the general opinion tiiat there will be no guarantee of peace while the leaders are left at liberty, and .their early arrest or deportation is looked for. There are no grounds for alarm for general safety. All classes and the Nationalists are against the Indians. N February 18. The Indians are coming in and resuming work. The Municipal Council put on PO men on Tuesday, and many others have resumed elsewhere. All the Indians must be within doors by 7 o'clock, and none aro allowed in Suva by day without permits. This has had a very quietening effect. At Nausori and Navua men are returning to work, and everything is reported auiet. There are some who predict a recrudescence of tha trouble, but the coolies have had a good lesson, and should give no more trouble, although there may be individual cases of repayment for injuries received. "COMPLETE ORDER PREVAILS." WELLINGTON, February 24. The following message, dated February 21, from the Governor of Fiji, has been received by the Governor-General of New Zealand: —"Indian strike, Fiji. All have returned to work at Suva and Rewa, and complete order prevails. No development as regards northern and western districts.' v '
