The Sea Encroachments at St. Clair: Comparative Photographs.
The conditions of the beach at St. Clair were undoubtedly best before anything was done to it. A correspondent says:—"l used then to drive from Lawyer's Head to the baths and back without trouble In 1900 we had very aeavy weather, which caused the damage as shown in the first photo. About 1904 the groynes were erected. Nothing was done to restore the road that had been washed away until 1912, when the present wall and esplanade were built. Two years after the beach had made up as shown in photo. In 1917 the sand up to the foot of the wall., during the years 1914-1917 being washed away at intervals. At the present time the teach is lower than ever it has been.
