MAJOR THE HON. JOHN DEWAR. In a reeeiil London Gazette appeared he announcement that the Military Cross had been conferred en Major the Hon John Dewar, the eldest son of Lord Forteviot, of Dupplii, head of the famous distilling firm. Before the war Major Dewar was a captain in the Scottish Horse, and after mobilisat on served throughout the Gallipoli campaign. Later he was draf.cd to Salonika, where his regiment, which then became the 13ch Ba'.talion Black Watch, put in two long years. Transferred to France after the vicissitudes of the early part of 1918, he participated in all the hard fighting which took place during that summer and right up to the armistice. After finishing his education at Oxford, where he gained his "blue" as an oarsman, he travelled extensively abroad in t'.e interests of business. Besides being a director of John Dewar and Sons, Ltd., Major Dewar is a city councillor of his native city of Perth.
