Mr William Shave, an old resident, aged 63 years, who was employed on the borough staff, was drowned in the Gore reservoir on the 10th inst. He was noticed by children about 2.30 opening trie door leading to the reservoir. Not seeing him return, the children later went to the door and saw his body floating in the water. While Dr Robertson, who' was driving a motor car in an Auckland suburb, was crossing a tramline' a tramcar got into dangerous proximity. He swerved the motor, but could not avert a collision. He was thrown out of the car, and was removed to the hospital with his skiull seriously fractured. While a Maori child was replenishing a fire at the Rangitaiki swamp, where some workmen were engaged, he accidentally gathered up a detonator with an armful of wood. An explosion occurred, and shattered his hand, which was amputatad at the hospital. An elderly lady, Mrs M'Ewan, widow of Mr John M'Ewan, of Wanaka, died unexpectedly on Sunday, 7th inst., at her residence. Albertown. Hatcher, and died in the hospital. Tho driver did not see the deceased until he was very close to her. > A boy named Gordon Athole Cowley, aged years, was found drowned in Auckland Harbour. It is believed that the deceased was playing near the waterfront, and had gone on to the beach, being overtaken by the tide. The body of a woman was found on tho Makara beach on tho 17th. At Port Chalmers on < Thursday a boatbuilder named Robert Gunningham got foul of a saw in Messrs Miller Bros.' yard, and was cut r.bout the face and hands. Ho was removed to the Cottage Hospital, and is reported to be progressing favourably. Mr James Henderson, a retired miner from Skippers, aged 84- years, died suddenly on the 17th on the railway station platform at Burkes. The deceased nad been staying for the past 15 weeks with a resident of Burkes named Mr Wilson, and he went down to tho station in the evening to meet a friend on the 6.30 train. When he reached the station he sat down gasping, and a friend ran to ask the stntionmaster to iret him a drink of water. The stationmaster did as he, was asked, but tho man was dead .when he returned.
