OCCUPATION OF SAMOA.
WHAT IT COST NEW ZEALAND. AN OFFICIAL STATEMENT. WELLINGTON, September 12. The following statement, showing the whole cost to New Zealand of the military occupation of Samoa to the 30th June, 1919, has been supplied by the Minister of Defence for publication:— Mobilisation and equipment of troops (advance party and Samoan relief): Camps, £9163 9s 4dj equipment,. £10,640 16s 4d. Advertising, printing, etc,, £266 13s lid; postage, telegrams, etc., £1976 9s 6cL Transports (including hire, fitting out, fuel, etc.): Moeraki, £10,672 6s lid: Monowai, £13,377 3s 9d ; Talune £14,697 2s 3d. Other items of transport: Men returning to New Zealand, freight, etc., £56,375 12s 6d; pay (advance party and Samoan reliefs), and allowances of troops, £207,866 ss. Provisions and supplies: Forage, £18,135 10s 3d; rations, £60,175 8s 3d. Medical (including examination fees and equipment), £5532 12s 7d. Other items of expenditure: Prisoners of war, £457 4s; mechanical transport, £1779 lis sd; purchase of horses, £760 17s sd. Grand total, £411,905 3a 7d.
