CROMWELL.

August 25. —For over four daya Cromwell had been practically cut off from outside communication on account of the heavy slips down the line. No letters or papers were received from Dunedin sinoa Monday week until Friday night. Even then it was after 10 o'clock before the train managed to get in. What with slips and railway curtailing Cromwqll has been hit rather badly by this winter. However, it is to be hoped that things will right themselves in the near future. Football. —A football tournament was held on Saturday week in Cromwell, when, in spite of the adverse Weather conditions, a large number of spectators were present. It rained very heavily all the forenoon, and the Tournament Conninittee at one time seriously considered the question of postponing the function. But as the day wore on matters improved considerably, and it was finally decided to carry put the programme. The afternoon was very cold and showery, but for all that those present enjoyed themselves thoroughly. Competing teams came from far and near, one- from as far as Heriot. This last team was fortunate in winning the final, and heartily cheered for their well-deserved viotory. Glee Club.—The Glee Club intend holdincc their concert on September 6 ; A very attractive programme is promised, and from the fact that tickets are selling rapidly it - seems that patrons will not hs disappointed with the concert.
