SCOTT'S GAP.
August 21.—The committee responsible for the carrying out of the wecome home to 'Privates Kennedy, Stewart. Officer, Swap, and O'Keefe are to be congratulated on the excellence of the arrangements in connection therewith. On Friday, 15th inst., the hall was paoked to standing room; nevertheless a very enjoyable gathering resulted. Mr W. Aitken, iun., officiated as chairman, and welcomed the men home again in a few appropriate remarks, eulogising the services of the New Zealanders, and hoped they would long be spared to enjoy peace and prosperity. Mr J. C. Thomson, the member for the district, in a suitable speech, presented each of the returned men with a gold albert and medal, suitably inscribed, and on behalf of the committee and the people of the district wished them long life, prosperity, and every happiness. "FO4, they are jolly good fellows" concluded~itTie'" first part of the evening's arrangements, followed by the National Anthem. The entertainment part of the programme was in the capable hands of Sergeant-major Hunter, M.M., assisted by his wife, these two able performers keeping the interest of the audience for over an hour. Mrs Cupples and Miss Gibson (Ofcautau) also contributed a pianoforte dTTet, this item being duly appreciated. A comprehensive vote of thanks was moved by Mr Joseph Childs. after which an appetising supper was dispensed. A very successful function was brought to a fitting conclusion with a few hours' dancing. Changes of Property.—Messrs Stewart Bros., who until lately were engaged in farming pursuits here, have, purchased Messrs M'Rae's Brookdale Farm, in the Wyndham district, and entered into possession on the 15th of this month.—Messrs Flett Bros, and Bews have acquired the farm of Officer Bros, at £ls 10s per acre, offered at the last Otautau sale by auction, and are now in possession of a very compact little property adjoining their own.
