FLAXBOURNE.
August- 22.—The spring is now with us. and everything is growing vigorously, ana we are all very thankful to have escaped the dismal forebodings for a hard winter that wore so general in the autumn. Feed, it is true, has been short through the winter months, and water on some places very scarce, owing to the abnormally dry autumn. Against this, however, the weather has been beautifully fine, and stock thai have had water have pulled through muoh better than might have been expectedv In July and the beginning of August w« had some useful rains, and prospects for a good spring are bright. Lambing.—Lambs are coming freely, and] the death-rate so far has been small. Property Sales.—Many properties hav« been changing hands here lately at prices considerably in advance of a few year* ago, but porhaps as the value of the £1 has fallen so much the increase in values' is more apparent than i-eal, and > sellera, though tho money they get for their places seems big, do not .get more value than the smaller prices their places would have brought before the war. Back From the War. —Our soldiers, with one exception, are now all back. Our casualties luckily are small. Railwav. —In railway matters we ar* luckier than most places, our service noil being curtailed in amy way so far.
