MOMONA.

August 23.—Once again tho flood waters are out, and practically the whole of the southern part of the Taieri Plain is inundated, in many parts to a depth of several feet. On the east side of tho MomonaOtokia road the position not so bad, and the waters arc; commencing to recede, but on the western side the scene is desolately beyond description. It is just a vast expanse of water. In some places * the fences are covered, and the houses standing out in the water look strangely forlorn and desolate. A strong wind has bean blowing all day, and this has had the effect of backing up the water to a considerable extent. The river has fallen to normal again, and probably a start will be _ made immediately to repair the breaches in the river embankment. These river floods have occurred with unpleasant frequency during tho past two years. It is heart-breaking for those farmers in the low-lying districts. They never get a chance, but still, they carry on with a courage which knows not defeat. "Their work swept . away by. disaster; undaunted they build it again." Drowning Fatality.—The saddest feature of this unfortunate flood has been the accident whereby Alfred Lobb lost his life by drowning in the flood waters a few chains from his home. The deceased Was a fine young man, only 20 years of age, and a general favourite. The remains were interred in the Otokia Cemetery this afternoon, the funeral cortege being a very large one, testifying to the popularity of the deceased. The Rev. Father Morkane officiated at the grave.
