It will bo remembered that a year or two ago Mr Heskett secured rights over certain ironsand areas, and erected small works near the Patea bridge at which the ironsand was to bo treated under a new process. A few promising looking ingots of pig iron were turned out, but smelting operations then ceased, ana! the chairman of the Harbour Board mentions at a recent meeting that all the machinery had now been removed from the building. The board, however, retained all brickwork, etc.
