A TEACHER FINED.
EXCESSIVE PUNISHMENT INFLICTED. PALMERSTON N., August 25. Judgment was given to-day by Mr Stout, S.M., in the case of A. o. Buchler, head master of the Westend School, Paimerston North, who was charged with assaulting Jack. Cornford, a pupil at the school. The Magistrate recorded a conviction, hold : ng that the master had administered excessive punishment, and that the medical evidence showed that the punishment was beyond the bounds of moderation. His Worship inflicted a fine of £2 and costs (£7 lis 6d).
