A BANKRUPT PRISONER

MEETING OF CREDITORS. AUCKLAND, August 25. A meeting of creditors in the bankrupt estate of W. R. Hill, alias J. H. Johnson, who was sentenced to 18 months' imprisonment last week on charges of obtaining credit by fraud in 1914, was held to-day. Tho official assigneo presided, and the bankrupt was present in custody. The assignee said that as there was no quorum of creditors present no resolution could be passed, but the bankrupt could be examined on any matter relating to hia bankruptcy. The bankrupt stated that, owing to his defective memory, he could not supply even a list of his creditors. Summonses and accounts in possession of the bankrupt's solicitors and the police showed liabilities amounting to £IOB4, but other firms were affected, and it was impossible to say what the total liabilities would be. Among the firms were: —Kayo and Carter (Christchurch), Field and Royda (Christchurch), Horn© and Co. (Dunedin), Harraway and Sons (Dunedin), Fraser and Co. (Dunedin), Bray Bros. (Dunedin), Milligan and Bond (Oamaru), Ireland and Co. (Oamaru), Hamilton and Sons (Oamaru), Buxton and Co. .(Timaru) r< Canterbury Farmers' Co-operative Association (Timaru), Corry and Co. (Blenheim), H. A. Loyd (Ashburton), Goldingham and Bsckett (Palmerston North), Hodder and Jolley (Palmerston North), and Anderson and Broad (Marton). Of the £IOB4 it appeared that £149 related to bankrupt's transactions in .1914, and the remainder from April to June of this year. Tho bankrupt had a credit of £521 at the bank. On being examined by the official assignee the bankrupt said his right name was John Horc, his wife lived in Sydney, and he had a grown-up family. The meeting was adjourned.
