DOMINION EXPORTS

A £9,000,000 INCREASE. HEAVY WOOL SHIPMENTS. A large increase in the dominion exports is shown by the latest figures issued by the G overnment Statistician. For the 12 months ended June 30, 1919, the exports were £39,679,495, an increase of £9,018,350 over those for the corresponding period last year. An increase is also shown for June, the value of the exports being £3,803,311, as against £2,876,923 for June, 1918. The meat position, however, is not very satisfactory. There was less beef, mutton, and lamb exported, although there was an improvement for June in mutton and lamb. There was also a decline in flax and timber exports, but increases were recorded in all other classes of produce. Evidence of the manner in which wool has been shipped away during the past few months is afforded by the fact that for the six months ended June 30 last, 517,186 bales were lifted, valued at £12,726,530. For the corresponding period in 1918, 200,880 bales were exported, valued at £4,874,873. It will therefore be seen that the heavy export of wool accounts for much of the increase. Export figures, with a comparison, are as follows: ■

Imports during the six months ended June 50 have also been heavy, amounting to £15.667,606, as against £11,432,915 for the corresponding period in 1918. But the excess of exports over for th 3 six- - monthly period mentioned is abnormal, being £13,884,692. The excess for-this period in 1918 'was £6,906,265.
