YOUTHFUL CRIMINALS.
EIGHT BOYS PUNISHED. OHRISTCHURCH, August 27. Eight lads, ranging in age from 13 to 15^ years, were to-day brought before Mr j M'Oarthy in the Magistrate's Court and ' charged -with breaking and entering and I theft. There were 35 charges against them ' altogether, including 24 against one boy, 18 against another, and 17 against a third. The Magistrate said most of the boys had been before the court previously, and had failed to keep their promises to reform. Some of the cases were attributed to the condition of the home life. All the accused pleaded guilty. ..',"■ i Seven were committed to training farms, ! and the other was admitted to probation ! for two years and ordered to receive 10 ■ strokes of the birch. Orders were made for ' payment of the damage done.
