EMBARGO ON HIDES.
WHO REAPED THE BENEFIT? HASTINGS, August 17. At a meeting of the Hawke's Bay Executive of the Farmers' Union the. following resolution was carried: —"As many thousands of pounds have been lost to the producers of the dominion owing to the effect of the embargo on hides, and in spite of such embargo boots are now more costly to the consumer than ever, the Prime Minister be asked to request the Board of Trade to supply information as to who reaped the benefit, and that no tanned leather should be exported from the dominion under any circumstances, so tha{ the supply which has been secured at special prices shall be used for local consumption."
