DAMAGED CARGO.
ACTION AGAINST UNION COMPANY. WELLINGTON, August 14. A test case of considerable importance to shipping people and merchants generally came before Mr Riddell, S.M., in the Magistrate's Court to-day, when Aulsebrook and Co., of Christchurch, sought to recover damages from the Union Steam Ship Company in respect of damage to a consignment of biscuits recently carried from Lyttelton to Wellington by the steamer Poherua. The biscuits were damaged by sheep dip leaking. It was contended for the plaintiffs that the damage was caused by faulty stowing, but the defence was that it was caused hy perils of the sea. Deoision was reserved.
