(By Cable.) LONDON, August 11. The wool sales opened with .good com* petition at par to 5 per cent, advance. The Bradford wool report states that business is at a standstill, awaiting $ settlement of the coal strike. j August 12. At the wool sales there was excellent' competition, Continental buyers operating freely in medium and fine crossbreds aj opening rates. The Tenlandowns clip realised:' Top 31d, average 30|d. At the wool sales 7572 bales were offered, of which 3495 were New Zealand clips; Gore, top average 55djf Mataura, 36d and 35d. ; The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company (Limited) Las received th« following cablegram! from its London house under date 12th August, 1919:—"Wool sales opened. For merino and fine crossbred the market is firm; other sorta are easier." Messrs Ualgety and Co. report having received th& following cablegram from their head ofSce, London, dated August U:r-4 Sales continued. Attendance of' buyers isj fair. Fair selection. Merino generally unchanged, fine crossbreds 5 per cent. ad> vanco, medium crossbreds and other descrip* tions unchanged, second crossbred woola; rather lower, slipo wools crossbred rathe?lower as compared with last wool sales' oloqjt !ng rates.
