SHORTHORN CATTLE BREEDERS.
ANNtJAL MEETING. CHRISTCHURCII, August 13. The annual meeting of the New Zealand Shorthorn Cattle-breeders' Association was held to-day, Mr It. E. Alexander presiding. The report stated that the members of the association total 160. Mr Alexander was re-elected president, and Mr John Deans (South Island) and Mr H. Gascoyne (North Island) were re-elected members of the council. It was decided that after July 1, 1919, breeders must tattoo or fire-brand all animals used for breeding purposes, and that the tattoo or fire-brand used be included in the pedigree and breeding returns. Shields for competition in 1919 were allocated as follows:—North Island—Masterton, Feildmg, Hawke's Bay, Auckland, and Hawera; South Island— Ohristchurch, Dunedin, Invercargill, Ashburton, and Gore. It was decid.ed that it be a recommendation to the Government that breeding cattle submitted to public sale be tested as to soundness.
