SOLDIERS RE-ENGAGED
ROLL OF HONOUR SCHEME. RIGHT TO FLY SPECIAL FLAG. The repatriation roll of honour echemo will shortly be put into operation in Auckland. Tnis was proposed by Mr A. W. Gillies, chairman of the Auckland District Repatriation Board, at a meeting of business men recently, and it has been unanimously approved by his board. The idea is to issue to ©very firm which re-employa ail its men who return from the war a certificate which will confer the right to fly a registered flag. The following regulations governing the issue of the certificates have been adopted by the board: —(1) All applications for certificates shall be made to Mr Alex. M. Ferguson, convener of the Auckland Business Men's Committee, or to the Auckland District Repatriation Office; (2) after investigation and recommendation by the committee, the board will issue a certificate to_ ihe firm or person recommended; (3) the issue of a certificate will entitle the firm or person to fly a flag of honour; (4) a list of the of certificates will be advertised from time to time. (5) Applicants must supply the following! information:—A list showing all the names of their employees—(a) who left their employment to go on service; (b) who have returned and are repatriated and back to Work; (e) who have died; (d) who have not yet returned; (e) who have returned, but are not vet in work, but all of whom have places kept open for them; (f) who are returned soldiers, but have not been reemployed, and the reason; (g) who are returned soldiers hitherto not employees, and are filling vacancies caused by death or otherwise. (6) The committee having considered these lists, may recommend the issue of a certificate, or may refer the application back to the firm, or hold over, or decline the application. (7) The board may cancel any certificate at any time should sufficient oause be shown—i.e., that the holder is no longer entitled to a certificate. (8) All certificates and cancellations shall bo advertised by the board. (9) If a firm offers a returned soldier employee his pre-war job at pre-war price, or at the existing rate of union wage in that work, and if the employee refuses to accept _ the position, the firm shall not be penalised. Every case shall be dealt with on the basis that the employer offered his employee bia pre-war position, and satisfactorily accounted for all his enlisted men.
