CLUTHA PRESBYTERY
The Clutba Presbytery met at Milton on Wednesday, when there were present the Kev. Mr Morton (Moderator pro tern) and a fair attendance of members. The Kev. Mr Durward was elected Moderator for the ensuing six months, but in hia absence Mr Morton retained the chair. It was agreed to consider at next Presbytery the question of "Creeds in Relation to the Question of Union," Mr Hume to open with a short paper. The simultaneous mission arranged for by the Church Life and Work Committee, from August 31 to September 7 (inclusive), was considered, and, on the motion of Mr M'Dowall, seconded by Mr Bandy, it was agreed strongly to urge congregations to take the matter up heartily. It was agreed to call for home mission, station balance sheets, and a committee, consisting of Messrs Currie, M'Dowall, Campbell, and Smaill, was appointed to recommend the grants for next year. On the motion of Mr Clarke, seconded by Mr Rose, it was agreed to approve of the Assembly remit granting assistant ministers a seat in Presbytery. The following representatives to next Assembly, to meet in Invercargill in November, were appointed : —Messrs Currie, Hume, M'Dowall, Durward, Morton, Mason, and Bandy (ministers). The sessions of Balclutha, Kaitangata, _ Milburn, Owaka, Tokomairiro, and Waitahuna -were each asked to appoint a delegate. It was agreed, on the motion of Mr Currie, seconded by Mr Edwards, to ask the Assembly to admit the Rev. Henry Williams, late of Waiwera and Kaihiku, to the benefits of the beneficiary funds as from the beginning of July, and to grant him the position of emeritus minister, with a seat in Presbytery, Synod, and Assembly.
