SOUTH ISLAND TRUNK RAILWAY.
EARLY COMPLETION WANTED. OHRISTCHURCH, August 15. A deputation from the South Island Main' Trunk. League waited on the Chamber of Commerce, and requested its assistance in impressing on the Government the necessity for the early completion of the South Island trunk line. The deputation urged that the Government should borrow £10,000,000 to complete the existing lines, and pointed out that a railway between Christchurch and Blenheim would give a fillip to settlement and result in increased production, which was urgently needed in view of the dominion's financial burdens. The chamber promised to giv.e every assistance in its power to further the request of the league.
