REVOLUTION IN PORTUGAL.

Postal communication with Portugal is ■interrupted, but frontier reports state that the revolution is earned on chiefly by troops returning from France, with the object of replacing the Government by supporters of ex-President Machado. According to frontier reports the whole of the interior of Portugal is in a state of civil war, and all communications have been suspended owing to the movements of. troops. Santarem is in the hands of the revolutionaries under Colonel Figuerido, of the military junta of Oporto, which is organising the -.movement with undoubted Bolshevist backing. The Portuguese Government announces an insurrectionary movement, supported by Bolshevist agents. A crowd attacked the Palace of St> George, but were checked by some forces faithful to the Government. The crew of the destroyer Giraldi and the troops at the naval arsenal revolted, but the faithful troops captured the arsenal by assault. The rebels were arrested, and the Giraldi's crew was forced to submit. The Government has taken severe measures. Nobody is permitted in the Lisbon streets after 9 p.m. The provinces are quiet, except Santarem, where rebels marching on.
