BANKRUPTCY BUSINESS.
The return for the Otago and Southland bankruptcy district (which, besides Dunedin, includes the deputy official assignees at Invercargill, G-ore, and Oamaru) for the quarter ended December 31, 1918, have just been completed by the official assignee (Mr W. W. Samson). The figures in parenthesis are for the corresponding quarters of 1017. The return is as under: — Official Assignee's Office.—Number _of bankruptcies unclosed at end of preceding quarter, 30 (26); number of bankruptcies closed during the quarter, 8 (0); leaving on hand, 22 (26). Number of fresh bankruptcies during the quarter, 2 (3); total bankruptcies in hand at above date, 24- (29). Total amount of assets realised, £155 3s 8d (£3O 6s lOd). Total paid in dividends, including preferential claims, £9l 8s lOd (£303 6s 6d). In the deputy official assignees' districts, the number of bankruptcies closed during the quarter was 24 (35). The total amount of assets realised was £ll2 14s lOd (£703 9s Id), and the amount paid in dividends, £B7 15s (£3Ol 8s lid).
