SHORTAGE OF COAL.

SUPPLIES EXPECTED FROM AUSTRALIA.

WELLINGTON, January 17.

The shortage of coal is becoming a source of anxiety. The supplies coming forward for the railways are far below orders. The railways have never been so short. The Hon. A. M. Myers, Minister of Supplies, says that the available coal will be distributed on a fair basis among the essential industries, and all possible consideration will be given to the urgent needs of housefa olders. He anticipated that the settlement of the shipping trouble in Australia would clear the way for the despatch of sumoient supplies to relieve, the situation.
