RAILWAY WORKS.
EARLY RESUMPTION PROBABLE
WELLINGTON. January 7.
The Hon. Mr Herries (Minister of Railways) stated to-day that the Railway Department would go ahead, as soon as it could get authority, to raise the necessary loans that had been granted by Parliament years ago, but ,the needs of the war had taken precedence in finance as in other matters. Seme of the operations recommended by Mr liiley, general manager, had been undertaken —for example, the reclamation at Auckland as a prelimi iary to railway extension. The Wellington scheme (inchiding the railway station and further reclamation for sidings and other purposes) had been enlarged.
