PUBLIC SERVICE.
MR R. J. COLLINS RETIRING. WELLINGTON, January 8. Mr R. J. Collins (Controller and Auditorgeneral) intends retiring from this position. Some time ago ho expressed a wish to retire, but was requested by the Government to continue in office during the war period.Mr Collins is also chairman of the Military Pensions Board. The indications are that Mr Lr. J*. U. Campbell (Secretary to the Treasury) will succeed Mr Collins, whose place he filled when Mr Collins moved on from the Treasury. In such an event Mr Essen (Mr Campbell's chief assistant, who is temporarily assistant publio service comrawsioner "is likely to become Secretary to tb* Treasury. The changes may not take place for some months.
