DEFENCE DEPARTMENT.
WELLINGTON, January 3. Colonel Potter, late commandant at Trentham, has been appointed temporary officer commanding the Auckland district, in succession to the late Colonel Patterson, and ho will leave to take up his new duties shortly. _ „ Lieutenant-colonel J. E. Duigan, late commander of the Tunnelling Corps in France, who recently returned, has been appointed General Staff officer for the Auckland district, -vice Major Sir Robert Walker, who is leaving for England.
